What is Myofunctional Therapy?

Myofunctional Therapy, a type of treatment that aims to correct improper function of the tongue as well as other oral and facial muscles. It is gaining popularity as a natural, non-invasive solution for various dental issues. It addresses the underlying cause of problems such as crooked teeth, mouth breathing, and swallowing difficulties.

How Much Does Myofunctional Therapy Cost?

The cost of Myofunctional Therapy can vary depending on various factors, such as the length of treatment. Before beginning treatment, please schedule a consultation with Dr. Wallace and her team to discuss the specifics of your case, including the cost. This way, you can make an informed decision about whether or not Myofunctional Therapy is right for you and plan for any potential expenses. Ultimately, the cost of Myofunctional Therapy is an investment in your oral health that can have long-lasting benefits for years to come.

How Does It Work?

Our team of qualified specialists will guide you through this unique therapy by helping you develop proper tongue resting posture, correct incorrect swallowing patterns, and train your facial muscles to work harmoniously. This involves a series of personalized exercises.

What Are the Benefits?

Myofunctional therapy can not only improve dental health but also enhance overall wellness. Patients can enjoy the many benefits of this innovative treatment approach.

Improves Breathing

You may not realize it, but your breathing ability can significantly impact your dental and overall health. Myofunctional therapy techniques, such as tongue placement exercises, can help to retrain the muscles in the mouth and throat to promote proper breathing techniques. In doing so, you can improve your sleep quality and avoid developing sleep apnea, snoring, and other respiratory issues affecting your health.

Enhances Speech and Swallowing

Have you ever struggled to swallow or felt like your speech was slurring? Myofunctional therapy could help improve these functions. The therapy works by training the tongue and other facial muscles to work correctly and in sync, assisting in clearer speech and smoother swallowing.

Reduces Jaw Pain and TMD

Temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMD, commonly affects the jaw joint and surrounding muscles. Various issues can cause it, such as teeth grinding, misalignment, or even stress. Fortunately, myofunctional therapy can provide relief by teaching patients exercises and stretches that help to strengthen and relax the muscles in the jaw region.

Corrects Misaligned Teeth

Did you know that orthodontic issues, such as an overbite or underbite, can be addressed through myofunctional therapy? The therapy targets the root causes of misaligned teeth, such as improper tongue placement or mouth breathing, to promote proper growth and development. You may need less extensive orthodontic treatment in the long run by addressing these underlying issues.

Enhances Facial Aesthetics

Lastly, myofunctional therapy can also notably impact your facial aesthetics. By strengthening and toning the muscles in the face and neck, the therapy can help reduce sagging and wrinkles, resulting in a more youthful appearance.
